Privacy policy

Yassine Ezza runs HouseFair and is responsible for your personal data under UK data protection law (UK GDPR). Contact: apollon20220@gmail.com.
What we collect
- Your house: the house name, the first names housemates choose, the chores you set up, who did what and when, who is away, and any chores reported as needing doing. Everyone in the house can see this.
- Sign-in: a cookie that keeps this device in your house for up to 90 days. We store only a scrambled (hashed) version of it, and of your admin PIN and recovery code.
- Security: your IP address, hashed and kept for about ten minutes, to stop people guessing PINs or flooding the service. Our host also keeps short-lived technical logs.
- Payments: if you buy Plus or leave a tip, Stripe collects your payment details. We receive and keep only Stripe’s customer and subscription references and whether your house has Plus. We never see your card number.
- Reminders (Plus): if you turn them on, your browser gives us a notification address for this device and we store your timezone, so reminders arrive at sensible hours. Turning reminders off deletes it.
- Calendar link (Plus): a private link that shows your house’s upcoming chores and the next person’s first name to anyone who has it. Share it only with your house.
- On your device: your light/dark choice, currency choice and whether you’ve closed the getting-started tips, saved in your browser only.
We don’t use advertising or tracking cookies, and we don’t sell your data.
Why we use it
- To run your house and the fairness rota (to provide the service).
- To take payments and manage Plus (to provide the service).
- To keep HouseFair secure and working (our legitimate interest in protecting the service and its users).
Who else handles it
- Cloudflare hosts HouseFair and its database (stored in Western Europe).
- Stripe processes payments and is responsible for the payment data it collects.
Some of these providers may process data outside the UK. When they do, they use the legal safeguards UK law requires.
How long we keep it
House data stays while the house is in use. Demo houses are deleted after 3 days. Device sign-ins expire after 90 days. If you want your house or your name deleted, email us and we’ll do it within 30 days. We keep payment records as long as tax law requires (normally six years).
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct, delete or get a copy of your data, or object to how we use it. Email apollon20220@gmail.com. If you’re unhappy with our answer, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
Children
HouseFair is not meant for children under 13.
